Adolescent Self-Theories of Singing Ability Within a Choral Hierarchy

Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore adolescent self-views singing ability through both implicit theories (i.e., fixed mindset and growth mindset) self-concept meaning systems in the context a choral hierarchy. Using survey instrument modified from Dweck (1999) measure self-theories ability, I gathered data middle high school participants currently enrolled hierarchical structure. analyzed descriptive statistics responses items designed self-concept, goal orientation differences among by ensemble placement theory scores. In addition these quantitative measures, coded open-ended two failure scenarios examined participant gender. Both scores were higher for at top Open-ended indicated that associated with lowered shame placement, especially female-identifying participants.
